U.S. Rep. Alma Adams held a press conference at First Ward Park this morning to officially announce her campaign for re-election as representative of North Carolina's 12th congressional district, and also to state that she is in the process of moving to Charlotte, now that newly proposed congressional districting lines may place her home as far as 90 miles from the 12th. This week's news feature in Creative Loafing details the redistricting process and how it may harm Adams' campaign. Also at this morning's press conference, Adams announced endorsements from the NC AFL-CIO, Planned Parenthood and the League of Conservation Voters, among other groups. (Ryan Pitkin)

A 32-year-old woman was killed while crossing W. Sugar Creek Road just before 7:30 p.m. last night, according to a CMPD release. Kameka Collins was reportedly wearing dark clothing and crossing a non-marked pedestrian crossing when she was struck by a 1999 Acura driven by Moises Guzman. Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol played a part in this accident. (Ryan Pitkin)

Oakhurst Flowers became the latest victim of criminally bad drivers on Monroe Road last night, as a driver caused major damage by slamming into the front of the business and fleeing the scene. The accident reportedly happened around 7 pp.m. last night. (Fox46 Staff) Just four months ago, a driver slammed into the front of Lupie's Cafe, just right down Monroe Road from Oakhurst Flowers, and fled the scene as well. A man and woman were arrested in Alexander County yesterday after they were caught in the act of trying to bury a body. Alexander County sheriff deputies were responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle when they found Toni Hearne and Linsey Lentz in a vehicle that was stuck on an incline. Further investigation led to the discovery of the body of Hearne's uncle, Robert Hearne, Jr., behind an abandoned house and partially covered with sticks, leaves and tires. On the scene, Hearne reportedly stated that he was defending himself from his uncle when the killing happened. He and Lentz have been charged with murder and not reporting a death.
