Officials updated the death toll of the worst mass shooting in American history to 49 this morning after removing the last of the bodies from the Orlando LGBT nightclub targeted by the attacker on Latin night. Law enforcement officials believe the attacker had terrorist sympathies, while family members and co-workers have said he was mentally ill and filled with hate for other races and gay people. Officials have begun releasing the names of the dead as they notify families. Many of the victims were in their 20s and 30s. Five people were hospitalized following a five-car pileup involving an 18-wheeler on southbound I-85 this morning. One person was trapped in their vehicle, but officials say no one suffered life-threatening injuries. Parts of the interstate were blocked off near Billy Graham Parkway following the wreck. Police are currently investigating five shootings that took place within 24 hours throughout Charlotte this weekend, one of which involved a mass shooting in which four people were shot at a party near UNC Charlotte, killing one student. That shooting took place on Collegiate Avenue early Saturday morning, while two shootings happened on Beattie's Ford and one each on Ware and Statesville roads. (WSOC Staff)

Police in Cornelius are investigating after someone became the third victim to drown in Lake Norman this year over the weekend. Police have not released the name of the victim, who police say was under water for 10 minutes before being pulled out. The drowning happened at around 5 p.m. yesterday. (WCNC Staff)
