Sevendust w/ Taproot
Amos' Southend
Oct. 14, 2008
The Deal: Sevendust hammers its way through short, but sweet, set, brings Taproot along for the ride.
The Good: Taproot performed an energetic 40-minute set that looked like it was high-energy until the headliner hit the stage. It's always great to see a band truly having fun playing its music. Sevendust's members interacted with the crowd, smiled, jumped and rocked the roof off the joint. Opening with the first track of its most recent record, Sevendust launched into a furious hour-and-15-minute set that only slowed for "Angel's Son."
Drummer Morgan Rose was the freak you'd expect making his heavy beats look effortless. Singer Lajon Witherspoon smiled at the crowd, whipped his dreads around and showed his voice is in fine form as he belted out every note and appeared to be having a blast doing it.
The Bad: A guy and girl fighting on the balcony wasn't a pretty sight. The band definitely left the crowd wanting a whole lot more with seven albums out, there's a whole bunch more people want to hear live.
The Verdict: The energy put forth by both the band and crowd is infectious. While it's disappointing that Sevendust's set was so short, I can't imagine them being able to go for much longer than they do. A helluva rock show.
