Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
Visulite Theatre
Oct. 16, 2008
The Deal: Bluesy-rock songstress plows into Visulite for fantastic hour-and-a-half set.
The Good: I got to the Visulite about one minute after Potter hit the stage and was already annoyed that I had even missed a second of her performance. The entire band has a solid stage presence and her talent flows from behind the keyboards with ease. Potter has a sexy, sultry blues voice when she needs it and isn't afriad to let the power flow freely either. While most people who pick up her album may only be interested in the latest one, Potter played material from her earlier two, as well, and even performed the rarity "Piss On Your Hand" not as dirty as it sounds, and actually quite entertaining. Her a capella moment for the beginning of "Nothing But the Water" was both inspiring and breathtaking. I can't say enough good things one of the best shows I've seen this year.
The Bad: I'd say it was bad that the place wasn't packed, but there were definitely more people there than I expected and most were singing along. She had three songs planned for the encore, but only played one.
The Verdict: Keep an eye on Potter I expect big things from the young talent.
