We have currently lost track of all dates and days, so now each update will be by country instead of day.
We left Qatar and headed to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Our first show was at Al Dhafra Air Base. After we arrived at the base, we were given the rest of the day off. We were all in bed by 8 p.m., and got about eight of nine hours of sleep. It was so nice.
The next morning, we got a tour of the base. First off, we went to the K-9 section. They brought out a German Shepard and showed us all the tricks he could do, including the chasing and attacking modes he went into. They asked for volunteers so Josh and Adam both put on the arm sleeve and let the dog latch onto them. Both admitted that you can feel the teeth all the way through that thick sleeve.

I cut my teeth DJing on an online reggae radio station. Imagine being a house music DJ on a reggae station... wooooo.
Anyway, the guy who owns the station is cool with the owners of a local reggae club, so we would go in on Friday nights (early of course) and play house, hip-hop, old school r&b whatever we wanted. Wed have a few of our friends show up ... not too many, but it was cool. It was just good to hear our music over the loud-ass speakers; that was good enough for us.
So, I showed up one night, and there were more cars than usual in the parking lot, so Im thinking Hot damn ... we got a crowd tonight!! Well, we had a crowd alright a crowd of kids, 7 to 14 years old. Ay!!! WTF these kids doing in here man? Come to find out it was a birthday party. What parent rents a nightclub for their kid's birthday party?

I really, really hate to say it, but Clay Aiken makes a good point about American Idol and Adam Lambert:
"The minute that Adam Lambert was singing 'Ring of Fire' ... at that moment, [I] thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening! I wasn't really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him."This year, there was an obvious bias. Not even having watched the show, I can tell you that I was WELL aware of the bias from the judges as to who should win. In my opinion, that is awfully unattractive. I don't think I am alone.
"I think many voters got sick of being "told who to vote for". I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant. Therefore, on that last night, they used their votes against a contestant that they were tired of hearing about and for the contestant who had been written off."
And this from Gene Simmons:
Respectfully, I dont think Adam is a rock singer, Simmons writes. He sounds much more convincing singing ballads and Broadway shows. His voice doesnt seem to have a rock quality. But, Im sure hes going to do just fine.
So, we are about half-way through our tour and figured we could take this time to talk about living conditions and such. The food everywhere has been outstanding. The only bad food we have had was the airline food. We have been fed steaks twice, most dining facilities have grills in them. One especially good DFAC in Qatar actually had a Krispy Kreme in it. People are definitely getting fed well over here.
The rooms we have been given have all been nice as well. Mostly it's two per room, a couple of times we have had our own rooms, and once all six slept of us in a room with three bunk beds. Which was fun, except our sound guy Devin snores ridiculously loud, and Adam somehow imagined to hit his head on the TV stand. Although nobody can figure out exactly how he did it...
Everybody so far has been extremely grateful for us coming to play for them. We have to remind them we are way more thankful for what they do for us. Thats why we wanted to do this tour.
Tool will be performing at Bojangles Coliseum on July 29. Tickets go on sale on May 29.
