The Deal: Borderline legendary rap duo drops their long awaited third studio album and checking their track record, it's probably going to be a classic.
The Good: There's no need to EVER question Clipse and Neptunes collaborations. "Popular Demand (Popeyes)" and "I'm Good" are hits, period. Plus, their classic sound is there.
DJ Khalil joins the party and after hearing the epic sounding, "Kinda Like A Big Deal" with Kanye West and reggae-laced, "There Was A Murder," and the cymbal-crazy, "Footsteps." it sounds like he (and Chin) built an instant rapport.
While "crack rap" is still sprinkled over seemingly every verse, it's dialed back from past projects and incorporated a little better. Lot's of verses are second-listen classic because you won't catch the cleverness of what they just said your first time through. With that, there's still tons of quotables, honesty and sincerity.
The Bad: Clipse finally works with someone outside of the Neptunes, but it sounds like Sean C & L.V. did their best Neptunes impression.
I'm dreading the day douche-y local DJ's get their hands on "All Eyes On Me" with Keri Hilson and drunk/offbeat white girls and dick-ish guys, go crazy for it in the club. Not a bad song but that scenario is imminent! Trust me.
The Verdict: No telling what the actual sells on this album will be, but more so than any other Clipse album, this one seems built for commercial success (minus the Lil Wayne feature). Luckily for them, they didn't sacrifice their sound or their lyricism for more people to cop it on iTunes and Top 40 spins. They did it again.
