The Deal: Charlotte bands perform as co-headliners for small Snug Harbor crowd.

The Good: The night kicked off with a one-hour set by Charlotte's The Alpha Theory. Every time I see this rock quartet perform, I'm more impressed by how cohesive and strong they've grown as a group. It's not a matter of getting four talented musicians on stage — this group has truly bonded and grown into its own personality and the inter-relationships between band members is clear.

Strong vocals from singer Jocelyn Ellis lead the way. She's developed a solid stage presence since the band first started and isn't afraid to dance, get the crowd involved and showcase her range from song to song.

It may have only been their third gig, but the Isaac Spiveys offered up a healthy serving of solid songs. The group is made up of Adam Middleton (guitar/vocals) and Jacob Worden (drums) from The Stellas and Jesse Reaves (guitar/vocals) and Gray Wise (bass) of You Tonight. The band, which gets its name from the owner of Rock Hill music venue The Money, shows humor in its songs and songwriting. My favorite song title of the night — "You Play Drums Like Meg White." Can't wait to hear what else these guys come up with — in the studio and on stage. The experience is evident in the songs and it was hard to believe that they haven't been performing for that long together.

The Bad: Not a thing — aside from the small crowd. Oh well, there was more Fuel Pizza and great music for those who were there.

The Verdict: Both bands are ones to watch on the music scene... For only their third show, I expect a bright future for the Spiveys.
