I'm not the biggest My Morning Jacket fan for me, the verdict is still out. There are songs I really enjoy and others that make me yawn. However, the band just took a big notch up when I heard their latest cover.
Head over to Spin.com to hear My Morning Jacket's cover of "Our Town," a song from Emmit Otter's Jug Band Christmas. The song will be featured on an album of bands covering songs from the Jim Henson songbook, due Aug. 23.
The movie was a favorite of mine from childhood and the band does sweet justice to the humble tune. Well done, guys!
A quick search online for Black Eyed Peas today gets you a whole bunch of rumors. Some say the band is breaking up due to the ego of Will.i.am, some say the band is taking an indefinite break to focus on solo careers, some say Fergie has left the band to have a baby...
What is the truth? Who knows, at this point. Fergie told a recent crowd in England that the show would be the last they play for a long time... which leans toward the indefinite hiatus theory.
At this point, I'd say it's anybody's guess what the future holds. They've taken a break before, so this wouldn't be anything new.
Here's a quick rundown of what's new in stores this week:

The Deal: After frequenting the Milestone over the years, I have come to get to know all of the regulars in a Cheers like fashion. One of these regulars is Kyle Perkins of 25 Minutes to Go, one of the most kindhearted individuals I've ever met. About a month ago, Kyle and I were talking and he mentioned that he wanted to set up a benefit show, trying to bring people together for a good cause. If anyone had the ambition to do it, I knew it would be him and before I knew it, he had booked Do Work Fest for July 9 at Tremont Music Hall to benefit the victims of Joplin's tornado disaster. The line up kept growing and growing and it became an amalgamation of different musicians and artists ready to raise some money for some people who lost everything. Completely stoked for the cause, I decided to join the cause and wrestle for the Gore Gore Luchadores in an attempt to raise as much money as possible.
The '80s bad boys are still out on the road singing classic tunes. While Vince Neil's voice has gotten a bit whiny, Tommy Lee is still a madman behind the drum kit. This time around, his drum set does a 360-degree loop during his solo — and one lucky crowd member gets to go along for the ride. Ah, nostalgia. $40-$122.15.
