Museum Mouth brings post-punk to Milestone tonight (1/5/2012)

MUSEUM MOUTH “When all you do is write songs/ you’ll never have a social life,” Museum Mouth’s Karl Kuehn sings in “Buzzbrain,” and the lyric may synopsize the new LP, Sexy But Not Happy. Kuehn — who still lives in the small town he grew up in — crafts an ingenious mix of juvenile and adult concerns in songs like the title track, “I was a Teenage Paladin” and “Hell Hawk.” The Southport, N.C., band’s rough-and-tumble post-punk draws on elements of 90s noise-rock and the recent new wave resurgence to create an airtight, fuzzed-out sound. $6-$9. The Milestone. www.themilestoneclub.com.
