First notes (11/3/2014): Everyone's talking about Prince

Editor's Note: First Notes is a weekly update of recent happenings in the world of music.

* Instead of the usual two song format for musical guests, Saturday Night Live indulged Prince by allowing the musician to perform one eight-minute set featuring four songs — “Clouds,” “Plectrum Electrum,” “Marz” and “Another Love.”

* Roxy Music, which has been inactive for three-and-a-half years, is probably done, says guitarist Phil Manzanera. The influential British art-rock group, which formed in 1971, hasn't put out a new album since 1982, but has toured from time-to-time since 2001.

* Wayne Static, frontman for the electro-metal group Static-X, has died at age 48. Static was set to hit the road with his solo project over the next few months, including a stop at Amos' Southend on Nov. 20. The cause of death has not been released.
