First notes (2/9/2015): It's all about Beck and Kanye at Grammys

Editor's Note: First Notes is a weekly update of recent happenings in the world of music.

* Sam Smith won Grammys for Song of the Year and Record of the Year (among others) while Beck won for Album of the Year last night. For a complete list of winners, click here.

* Beck's win has gained the most attention — first for Kanye running up on stage right before he started his speech. Everyone assumed he would say Beyonce should have won, but he saved that speech for backstage. "Beck needs to respect artistry, he should have given his award to Beyoncé," West said backstage. "At this point, we tired of it. What happens is, when you keep on diminishing art, and not respecting the craft, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration."

* And then you have plenty of people who don't even know who Beck is, or why he won. Perhaps his win is evidence those people should do a little research on iTunes or YouTube.

* Here's a rundown of the best and worst moments from the show, according to Billboard. It seems like most people are talking about Hozier with Annie Lennox:
