"Ready" For Release

Hobex preps new album

Chapel Hill's Hobex, whose lead singer Greg Humphreys actually lives in Charlotte now, has signed with Tone-Cool Records. The label, which started out in 1985 signing mostly blues acts, is based in Wellesley Hills, MA, and is also home to the likes of Susan Tedeschi, North Mississippi Allstars and Double Trouble among many others. Last year the band spent a lot of time in the studio recording with former Ben Folds Five bassist Robert Sledge, who engineered and co-produced the material they submitted to the label. The label has set a tentative release date for the record, titled U Ready Man? for October 22. Along with the new record, Tone-Cool will also release the band's Back In The 90s CD. The band will be in town to perform with Gran Torino at the Visulite Theatre on Friday, July 19. For more details, check out www.hobex.com or www.tonecool.com. Connelly is the band's label mate and VooDou singer Michelle Walters contributed backing vocals to Connelly's latest release, Private Education.
