DJ Jazzy Jeff was just here to DJ a CIAA party at Halo, but he's coming back. This time, he'll be judging a local DJ battle sponsored by Red Bull at The Forum. Details below in the press release. What a great way to rock in the beginning of the workweek.

LOCAL DJ’S BATTLE IT OUT FOR RED BULL THRE3STYLE

Charlotte’s The Forum to Play Host as Eight Local DJs Fight for a Chance at Miami’s Winter Music Conference

WHAT: Red Bull Thre3Style isn’t your typical DJ battle. Eight of Charlotte’s best and most requested DJs will have to prove they have the spinning skills and musical knowledge to be crowned the city’s best. Each hand selected contestant will have 15 minutes to mix three different genres of music and win over the judges and the crowd. Judged on song selections, creativity, skill, swagger, and audience reaction, each DJ will have to give their all to win this competition.

WHO: Headlining the Red Bull Thre3Style Charlotte stop is DJ Jazzy Jeff who is no stranger to a set of turntables. He was just 10 years old when he started spinning records at parties and using his family’s basement as a training ground for his expert mixing. In the 90’s Jeff and his partner, Will Smith, created the chart topping duo, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Jeff has since served as producer for successful recording artists such as Jill Scott and continues to support and create music through all of his projects.

Jazzy Jeff will give a live DJ performance as well as join a panel of four other local judges who will score the contestants and ultimately choose who’s best. The winner of the Red Bull Thre3Style Nashville qualifier will advance to the regional finals to be held in Miami during Winter Music Conference. The winner of that final will advance to the U.S. finals in Denver later this year and the U.S. finals winner will earn the chance to compete in the International finals to be held in Paris, France.

The eight DJ’s are: DJ Soden, Frenzy, DJ R Wonz, DJ A-Huf, DJ Ciprian, Merlin, SPCLGST, DJ Forge

WHERE: The Forum

300 North College Street

Charlotte, NC

WHEN: Monday, March 15th

18+ welcome

Doors open at 8 p.m., competition starts at 9 p.m.

Admission is free

Fashion meets art at photo release party

Posted By on Wed, Mar 3, 2010 at 11:12 AM

A  couple of weeks ago, fashion designer Cigi Guzman of The Flock apparel line held a fabulous event dubbed the Public Photo Shoot Project at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille. Photographer Jasiatic took the mugshots of average folks who wanted to know what it was like to be a model for a day.

"I wanted an interactive way to reach my customers and to collaborate with other artists in the city and other business owners -- to not only market the product but for people to also experience the product and be a part of something," Guzman says. "I want them to be a part of my company, because essentially it is about them. [PPSP] is an extension of me as a business."

Well, tonight those photos will be released at the PPSP's photo release party at Dharma Lounge. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; stop through to get a chance to meet the models, the designer and the photographer in their collaboration of fashion meeting art.

Tonight: 96.9 The Kat's Concert for Hope features some country singers

Posted By on Tue, Mar 2, 2010 at 12:56 PM

I'm sorry ... I'm just not that hip on the country music scene. I've heard of Darius Rucker and Kellie Pickler ... not so much Rodney Atkins or Jason Michael Carroll.

Anyway, they're going to be in concert tonight at Coyote Joe's. Here's the press release.

CHARLOTTE, NC –  WKKT-FM 96.9 The Kat’s Concert for Hope features Grammy Award winners Darius Rucker and Lee Ann Womack plus Academy Country Music Award winner Rodney Atkins and two Carolinians in Jason Michael Carroll and Albemarle’s own Kellie Pickler Tuesday, March, 2nd at Coyote Joes!

Morning Show host Paul Schadt wagered his audience during this year’s two-day radiothon that they could not raise $200,000 this year for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. If they did Paul would shave his mustache! The 96.9 audience raised $200,487!

At 9pm tomorrow night before The Concert of Hope begins Paul Schadt will honor his bet and Kellie Pickler will have the distinction of shaving his mustache. Paul has had his mustache for over 25 years!

“If I was going to shave my mustache I’m glad it was for St. Jude’s” said Paul Schadt “and I couldn’t think of anybody I would want to shave off besides Kellie Pickler.”

St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital based in Memphis, Tenn., is the only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Locally WKKT-FM 96.9 The Kat has raised over 3 million dollars in their 21-year partnership with St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital
