They still don’t have the following in Charlotte that their exploits in New York should command, but NC Dance Theatre is one of the most accomplished troupes anywhere, equally adept in classic ballet repertoire and cutting-edge modern dance. A typical NCDT season features Balanchine classics performed at the highest level alongside new choreographies by Dwight Rhoden, Alonzo King, Nacho Duarte and resident genius Mark Diamond. No doubt about it, NYC Ballet refugees Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride have established a powerhouse here. You miss them at your peril.
