Best Of 2011

Staff Pick

A repeat winner. Plenty of the planet's best dance companies are on display in the Carolinas every year at Spoleto Festival USA or at the American Dance Festival. More often than not, subscribers to our own NCDT can return from Charleston or Durham with a satisfied smile - knowing that the visiting troupes are good, but not better than what we have here at home. The new Knight Theater is a wonderful showcase for NCDT's excellence, and for the upcoming 2011-12 season, the public will get a chance to see the company in action at their own educational dance factory, the Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance. Those two luminaries, keys to NCDT's sustained excellence, were recently feted in New York, where they received the first Ilona Copen Award from the New York International Ballet Competition.
