Leavin' the Game on Luckie St.

DVD Review: Butch Walker And the Let's Go Out Tonites

The Deal: Musical daredevils keep the rock going strong on their second live DVD, recorded at the Tabernacle in Atlanta.

The Good: Georgia-native Walker plays for two hours to a huge crowd of crazed fans. "Uncomfortably Numb," starts the set and 21 more songs follow. Some highlights are "Maybe It's Just Me," "Bethamphetamine," "Don't Move," "Indie Queen," an older track from Walker's former band The Marvelous 3, and the song "Race Cars and Goth Rock," which Walker calls his "life story." But it doesn't really stop with those. The best part of the DVD is when "Mixtape" kicks in along with "Stateline," following. After that, Walker switches to the piano to play his heartfelt stunts "Sober," "Joan" and "Cigarette Lighter Love Song." Walker gets comfortable during "Best Thing You Never Had," as he sets his microphone on the stage and sings lying down. After this track, he plays a three-song encore starting off with "Hot Girls In Good Moods," going on to a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" and ending the show with a little crowd surfing and audience mingling on "Lights Out."

The Bad: I think it's great Walker fans know the lyrics to his songs, but that doesn't mean I want to hear them sing. Throughout the DVD Walker lets the audience sing. At first, it was OK here and there, but after a while I got tired of it.

The Verdict: If you want to experience the intense energy of a Butch Walker show, then go to one. If you want to watch a worthy concert on DVD, then grab this up.
