If the food at Genaro's is any indication of how all food is like in Peru, book me a ticket asap.
I visited Genaro's Rotisserie and Grill yesterday and ate a feast. The restaurant located on Park Road Extension served up delicious Peruvian Bistek a lo Pobre - 12 oz. Rib-eye steak marinated with special spices topped with chimichurri sauce, served with white rice, spicy Peruvian beans, two fried eggs, French fries, and fried plantains. We asked for the "yellow sauce" (not sure what is in it) and dipped everything into it. Every single thing on the platter was delicious. The plantains were the best I've ever had -- they were soft and fried so that the outsides had a delicate crunch and were slightly caramelized and sweet. I still dream of the steak paired with the fried eggs and chimichurri sauce.
And though I was stuffed from finishing every last morsel of the meal, I couldn't possibly skip trying one of their beautiful desserts. I tried the Milhojas, a layered dessert made of crispy, flaky puff pastry, sweet vanilla cream, and thick dulce de leche. Milhojas literally translated means "million leaves," which is the perfect name for it. It was truly terrific in both taste and texture, but next time I can't wait to try the Tres Leches cake.
