The Meat House Opens In CharlotteCharlotte Has A New Neighborhood Butcher Shop
Charlotte, NC (April 20, 2010) - Charlotte has a new neighborhood butcher shop! The Meat House is officially open in The Village at Robinson Farm at 8410 Rea Road.
Locally owned by Virginia Meehan, The Meat House franchise offers customers a diverse line of expertly butchered premium meats as well as proprietary marinades, fine cheeses, fresh produce, artisan breads, prepared side dishes and other gourmet foods. The quality of these products, coupled with a unique focus on neighborly customer service that has been coined The Meat House Promise -unparalleled hospitality in a 10 minute shopping experience- has been embraced across the country as the modern revival of the neighborhood butcher.
I cant think of a better place to open The Meat House, said Meehan. Charlotte is grilling country and our new neighbors are in for a real treat! We will carry everything theyll need for the perfect barbeque.
Founded in New Hampshire in 2003 by best friends Justin Rosberg and Jason Parent, The Meat House, through a franchise development program has expanded over the past two months with locations in 6 states - Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina and California. There are additional locations opening in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Texas in May. The company also has territory agreements in place for over 125 stores in eleven states, with another 100 stores in six other states currently under consideration.
The Charlotte location is the second North Carolina location (The Meat House opened in Cary back in January), featuring a wide selection of expertly butchered premium beef, poultry, veal, lamb, and pork, marinated meats, fine cheeses, fresh produce, hearty breads, prepared side dishes, Boar's Head Deli products, delectable desserts and pastries, and other gourmet grocery items. Half-Priced Wines Every Tuesday Night at all Three Charlotte-Area131 Main Restaurant Locations
CHARLOTTE, N.C.Apr. 19, 2010Diners and wine enthusiasts looking for that special vintage now have a unique opportunity at all three Charlotte-area 131 Main Restaurant locations.
Every Tuesday night, all wines on 131 Mains wine list (up to $200 bottles) in Blakeney, Dilworth and Lake Norman will be offered at half-price. The announcement was made by Jeff Kellogg, Wine Director at 131 Main, whose primary goal is to develop a diverse wine list that complements the restaurants unique array of menu items.
Because 131 Mains menu focuses primarily on regional American cuisine, Kellogg said the majority of the wine list is from California and Oregon.
While American wines represent the bulk of our list, opportunities to represent a more diverse selection of wines coming from Europe and the Southern Hemisphere were not overlooked, Kellogg said. Our guests will find many sections of the list devoted to France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Australia and New Zealand. Many of the wines were hand chosen to complement specific menu items. Food pairing was, and will remain, a first priority in the development of our wine list.
Last year, the wine offerings at 131 Main were given the 2009 Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator Magazine for the second year in a row. 131 Main locations in the Charlotte area are:
* Blakeney, 9886 Rea Rd., Charlotte, (704) 544-0131
* Dilworth, 1315 East Blvd, Charlotte, (704) 343-0131
* Lake Norman, 17830 N. Statesville Rd., Cornelius, (704) 896-0131

Here's another taste of Taste of the Nation:
The Creative Loafing editorial team took a field trip across the N.C. Music Factory courtyard and visited our neighbor Black Bear Saloon for lunch today.
Black Bear Saloon, the newest addition to the N.C. Music Factory, opened its doors to the public today, making it the first restaurant to open in the complex. (Wet Willie's is close behind.)
A large bar is stationed in the center of the restaurant, with high-top tables and booths (with personal TVs) surrounding it. They also outdoor seating, if you are so inclined. Looking around, you'll see a lot of bears. They've got bear theme running throughout the restaurant bear crossing signs, bear photos, bear paintings, menu items with "bear" in the name ....
Take a look for yourself.

This will be Deen's second visit to Charlotte this month. She was just in town this past week to sign books at Park Road Books. See the pics here.

Wachovia Atrium was transformed into a food mecca for the Taste of the Nation event last night, April 14.
As part of the national Share Our Strength Taste of the Nation campaign, Charlotte's event featured amazing food from the top restaurants in town, auctions, live music, and a buffet of drinks. 100% of ticket sales went to support Share Our Strength's efforts to end childhood hunger.
A few standout plates included the pork belly sliders from The Liberty and the raspberry goat cheese ice cream on black pepper tuilles from Savannah Red.
Japanese breads and other Asian rolls, buns, and baked breads are known for their soft tender texture, buttery sweet taste, and their light springiness. For a carb-o-holic, this is pure heaven.
Get these results at home with this recipe for Japanese-style Sweet Buns. The trick to making these buns soft and springy is the water and flour roux (a cooked paste of water and flour). Supposedly the roux, when mixed with the dough, allows the dough absorb more liquid and hence the baked goods are softer and fluffier.
The dough can be used as a base for sweet and savory stuffed buns. On other food blogs, I've seen them stuffed with bbq roast pork, hot dogs, coconut custard, and whipped cream too.
This being my first time attempting the recipe, I decided to just make the basic plain bun. Fresh out of the oven, these are positively addicting. Attempting to just sample one, I ended up scarfing down three in one sitting. Oops.
You'll need to bust out your kitchen scale for this recipe ... measurements are in grams.
Food Network star, cook, and author Paula Deen made a stop at Park Road Books to sign copies of her book Savannah Style last night, April 13.
The line of people waiting to get their books signed wound down the sidewalk at Park Road Shopping Center for the signing that was from 6 to 8 pm. Some fans drove as far as 80 miles to see Miss Butter in person. Even a little dog was there checking out all the commotion.
Deen in person, with her aqua blue eyes, silver hair and bubbly personality, is just like Paula Deen you see on TV. She chatted it up with her adoring fans while she signed books, posed for photos, shook hands, and high-fived her new friends. Along with Deen signing books was Brandon Branch, co-author of Savannah Style.
Also making an appearance was Deen's husband Michael Groover, who mingled with the crowd and snapped pics with fans.
