Holy Matrimony Wings and Pizza mobile food truck (aka The Wingzza Truck) stopped by the CL office this afternoon to serve us some of their delicious pizza and chicken wings.
Holy Matrimony serves thick crust pizza made with their own original sauce, lots of cheese, and optional toppings such as pepperoni, sausage, veggie, and mushroom. The wings are fried fresh and dipped in a variety of sauces. In addition to mild, medium, hot, BBQ, and Carolina BBQ hot wing flavors, Wingzza also does a special flavor of the month.
The Wingzza Truck has been driving and serving in Charlotte since early October. You can find them tonight in Southend, across the street from Apostrophe Lounge. Their regular stops are JW University campus, NoDa, SouthEnd, and they also do custom stops. To find the truck, just follow Holy Matrimony on Twitter here.
Stop by Jack in the Box after 2 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 16 and receive 2 free tacos.
According to the restaurant:
"Just show up after 2pm and say, "Gimme your Free Tacos!" Or something less aggressive. You don't want people thinking you're pulling some kind of taco-hold-up or anything. Ask nicely and ye shall receive."

In the old auto shop with the red, white, and blue VW Bug on the roof, Pinky's Westside Grill has opened in Wesley Heights on the corner of Morehead Street and Freedom Drive.
The restaurant with ties to The Penguin (read more about that here), offers a few familiar menu items as well as many different ones. You'll find the same tasty fried pickles at Pinky's, along with burgers and hot dogs. But you'll also see a variety of salads and sandwiches. All menu items have amusing, funny names.
The fried pickles were perfect and not oily. The waffle fries were big and crispy. Burgers come served in four "styles," or you can personalize your own burger. The turkey burger I ordered "Westside style" (topped with chili, slaw and onions) was surprisingly juicy. All for a total of $10.87, I'd say it was a bargain meal.
The parking lot in front of the restaurant is tiny, so I had to park across the street at the tattoo parlor. As of now, there is no "do not park" sign up ... yet. People were also parking in the lot further down Morehead Street, past the restaurant.

Mix together crushed Oreos and a block of cream cheese and what do you get? Bite-sized truffle balls of amazing awesomeness.
According to a co-worker, "this truffle is the most delicious thing I've ever put in my mouth!"
Making them is a snap. Instructions are as follows:
1. Grind up an entire package (yes, three whole sleeves) of Oreos.
2. Mix in a block of cream cheese (softened).
(3. Add in a teaspoon of peppermint extract, if you so choose.)
4. Roll into balls, place on wax paper, and chill in the freezer for 10 minutes. *I used a scale to measure out each one and made each 15 grams
5. Dip balls in melted white chocolate (the Almond Bark variety works great)
Here I've dressed them up for the season. I added a couple drops of food coloring (which I do not recommend*) to the white chocolate to make the truffles into little pumpkins. The stems and the tendrils were made with toothpicks and curled green ribbon.
You can make these truffles for any holiday by getting creative with the decorations. Sprinkle on green and red nonpareils over the chocolate before it sets for Christmas truffles, or you can even use black icing to draw faces on white truffles to turn them into snowmen.
* It's probably not a good idea to add water-based food coloring like I did because it messed up the chocolate's consistency. I was only able to make a few orange truffles before the chocolate got down-right funky and hard to work with. I ended up trashing the orange chocolate and made the rest of the truffles plain. If you want to color your chocolate, get the oil-based food coloring. Yes, I'm a dumdum.
Divine Cupcakes and Yogurt Café is now open in Dilworth in Latta Pavilion on East Boulevard (near Picasso's and across the street from Blockbuster).
The cafe offers cupcakes, muffins, and frozen yogurt with a toppings bar.
On my visit on Saturday, they only had three varieties of cupcakes available, with only less than a dozen of each on display. The entire shop is self-serve, so customers can reach into the cupcake display and grab their own cupcake (without tongs). Not quite sure how sanitary this is. I'm thinking this might be an issue when kids get involved, right?
The yogurt is not the tart variety, yet it isn't the traditional soft-serve sweet type either. It's slightly icy and subtly sweet.

Located in Elizabeth, Kennedys Premium Bar and Grill is now open on the corner of 7th and N. Caswell Streets.
The two-story house which is now Kennedys used to be Ed's Tavern, and prior to that, Nolia restaurant. The new tenant has built a large porch in the front and offers a bar on each level of the house.
Kennedys celebrated their grand opening with a party on Friday, Nov. 5, that featured free appetizers (jalapeño poppers, fried mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, and fried pickles) and drink specials.
