Creative Loafing: So tell us a little about yourself.

Christy Ward: Well, I have a fashion merchandising retail degree from the University of Alabama. While I was there I actually had to do an internship with Women’s Wear Daily. I had the opportunity to do that, and I was the assistant stylist. I pretty much kept track of everything that came in for photo shoots as far as speaking with vendors, designers, getting stuff, you know, merchandise. Worked with models and went to different boutiques there and picked out what the photographers wanted or what they were doing the stories on.

Now I work here [Black & Blue].

I also make jewelry. I like to go for unique and eclectic things like pendants, or make different things. Amethyst, Black Onyx, and um, coral beads. Things like that. It’s like my outlet for being creative so I can be myself.

So currently you're a buyer for Black & Blue?

Yeah, and then you know, we style. We had a fashion show, and we styled that. And a lot of customers, they want to know what is in style now and we kind of have to style them and help them out as well.

What do you think is hot for spring?

Hot, for spring? Definitely bold colors, a lot of color. Floral, anything floral. Chunky bracelets are definitely a big hit for spring. The strappy sandals. Ankle jeans, skinny ankle jeans. Um, a nice blouse is always in style. Anything that’s kind of edgy, but still feminine at the same time, I think is always in style.

Where do you get your own clothes from?

Of course, Black & Blue. The Pink Hanger is another boutique I like to shop at. I know it seems cliché, but Express sometimes has good stuff.

Black & Blue is located at 720 Governor Morrison St., Suite E-180. You can call the shop at 704-366-9339.
