Unless you're living under a rock, by now you've heard that Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA is opening up in Charlotte tomorrow morning.
It's going to be crazy. The Observer is reporting that "Charlotte transportation officials are expecting Race Day-like traffic."
WCOC-TV is reporting that people are already in line, waiting for Wednesday's grand opening.
I'm excited.
I had my first IKEA experience last year at the one in Atlanta. My friend and I walked around for over an hour, picking up random colorful things, sitting on couches, chairs, beds, opening up cabinets and drawers, sitting at tables, turning faucets ... We took complete advantage of their "strict please-touch policy."
Women from all over the Charlotte area got together late Friday afternoon on Feb. 6 to participate in Diva Couture, an event hosted by JnR Wholesale Apparel whose main focus is primarily on women.
Described as a Ladies Night Out Experience/Pre-Valentines Day Happy Hour with complimentary dessert, drinks and hors doeuvres, it was hard to turn down. If you missed out, luckily for you there will be a Diva Couture event before Easter and another before Mothers Day.
The new comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic opens today. Jeez, I can relate to mounds of credit card debt due to a shopping addiction, so I'll be watching the movie soon. Maybe Rebecca Bloomwood (played by Isla Fisher) can give me some answers on how to get control of my addiction. Here's the trailer.
During one of the most commercialized holidays of the year, consider the gifts that you cannot go wrong with: flowers. What woman or man cannot appreciate a beautiful arrangement of colorful flowers? Here is a list of local floral shops that can understand the new recessional holiday seasons. (And if you're looking for a little extra something to give your honey, check out our Lusty Gift Guide and deals from Charlotte area boutiques).

After asking a few random guys what they would like from a girl for Valentine's Day, I was still at square one. Every single one of them replied with the usual, "For her to cook me a steak, naked/in lingerie/in costume." While this is certainly acceptable for the sexiest day of the year, I can't exactly put it in a gift guide. So in addition to cooking (naked) for your guy, here is a list of some items he might also appreciate:
1. For the foodie:
Rub With Love Barbecue Sauce: $7
Chicken Rub, Salmon Rub, Steak Rub: $8

PromotionalCodes.com isn't one of those sites who's name is misleading (like WhiteHouse.com. It's WhiteHouse.gov!)
If you're an avid online shopper, this is the place to go to get those promotional codes for deals on big retailers like Target.com, Macys.com, Amazon.com, BestBuy.com and more. They've also got printable coupons if you're one of those peeps who have to feel the fabric in your hand before you can commit to shelling out the paper.
Categories range from clothing to food & groceries to Web services.
If you're one of those people who take forever to decide to buy something despite how great the sale is RedTagCrazy.com is not for you.
From the site:
We sell one hot item from one sought-after label at a time, casual and designer, at deep discounts of 50-80%. Quantities are limited, time is limited, and our attention span is limited - so stay awake. We'll work hard to find the brands you want, as long as you work hard to continue buying them. This is retail therapy at its finest, and you'll never hit the mall again.
Current sale, as of 3:58 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2.
Continuing on my recent conversation with Arlene Goldstein, the vice president of trend merchandising and fashion direction at Belk, here's the second part of my two-part series on what to look for this spring in all fashionable hotness.
According to Goldstein, the color for spring is WHITE. It's a simple, classy look for men and women.
But if your clumsiness makes you avoid wearing white, you can check out the PANTONE fashion color report for spring 2009 by clicking here. Prominent colors are fuchsia red, slate gray, palace blue and lavender.
Recently I sat down with Arlene Goldstein, the vice president of trend merchandising and fashion direction at Belk, to find out some upcoming fashion trends for Spring 2009.
Part one of this two-part series is all about the neck and what you can put there to make a statement. In the spring, the neck is a very important part of the body to adorn for women and men.
Scarves have become a "seasonless accessory," Goldstein says. Women will use colorful scarves to accentuate their outfits regardless of what the temperature is like outside.
Another accessory that will be big to frame your face with this spring is the statement necklace. You can go for a layered look with beads or bold, exotic colors. Anything to make a statement.
For men, bold-colored neckwear is recommended. A bright, solid-colored tie will set your suit apart from the rest of the corporate types.
Check back next week for more fashion must-haves!
Recently while out of town visiting family, I came across a fashion faux pas that just made me laugh: light-up Air Force Ones. The set that I stumbled across was worn by a 17-year-old. In fact, he wanted these shoes so badly, he told me, that he bought them even though they were two sizes too big. He said he wanted to bring them back into style.
What? Shouldn't you be out of that light-up shoe phase by 11 or 12 years of age? What is it about bringing attention to your kicks with flashing lights?
