A real Pearl

Posted By on Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 10:10 AM

A Man Named Pearl, the charming and inspirational documentary that enjoyed a successful Charlotte run when it played in town last fall at the Regal Stonecrest, will return to area theaters this weekend. The nonfiction film about Pearl Fryar, a Bishopville, S.C., resident known for his gorgeous topiary art, will be shown starting Friday at the Manor Theatre and the Birkdale Stadium 16 in Huntersville. In his review of the film in the Aug. 29, 2007, issue of Creative Loafing, visual arts writer Scott Lucas wrote, “A Man Named Pearl is a feel-good documentary for those of us who hate even the idea of a feel-good documentary.”
