Korean people are really stubborn.
I can say this because my mom's from South Korea and I've been engulfed in the Korean community for more than 20 years. I wouldn't say that I'm an expert on the Korean culture (far from it!), and perhaps this is a hugely unfair generalization, but from my experiences, I've found that a great deal of Korean people are really, really stubborn.
And while I've never encountered a person from North Korea, I wouldn't be surprised if they were just as stubborn as their Southern neighbors. With that rude allegation being stated, I have to say that I'm really quite proud of the fact that The New York Philharmonic Orchestra played in Pyongyang earlier today. It was the first time an American orchestra has ever played in the communist country. Ever. Can you imagine the hurdles that they had to leap to make that happen? Maybe tensions between the United States and North Korea will start to subside a bit. Perhaps maybe even the North Koreans will realize that Americans aren't the devil, and there is a better way of life out there.
Or maybe nothing will change at all. If that turns out to be the case, all I can say is, stubborn bastards.
