The Associated Press reports that actor Ivan Dixon has passed away at the age of 76. Although born in New York City, Dixon graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham and retired here in Charlotte. He passed away at Presbyterian Hospital.
Dixon was best known for his recurring role on the hit 1960s sitcom Hogan's Heroes, where he played the radio specialist Kinchloe. However, his most critically revered work was arguably in 1964's Nothing But a Man, an indie feature that was rediscovered decades later. Other film credits included Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun and Car Wash.
In addition to his stage, screen and television appearances, Dixon also directed episodes for over three dozen TV series, including The Waltons, Wonder Woman and Magnum, P.I.
