Weekender

Posted By on Thu, Mar 12, 2009 at 2:02 PM

Check out these events going down in Charlotte and the surrounding area this weekend— as selected by the folks at Creative Loafing.

Fri., March 13

Theater: Kahlil Ashanti’s one-man production Basic Training is based on events from his own life.  It blends seriousness and humor for what amounts to, in the end, an inspirational and touching performance at Stage Door Theater.

Party: Continue to enjoy St. Patty’s Day festivities and get your drink on while watching performances by the Ceol na Gael Irish Pipe Band, Walsh Kelley Dancers, The Belfast Boys, and headlining act Black 47 at EpiCentre’s Green Party.

Special Event: Celebrate St. Patty’s Day with Irish dancing, music and more, as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Charlotte Goes Green: St. Patrick’s Day Festival goes down.

Comedy: Need a chuckle? Catch a show by comedy troupe The Chuckleheads at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille.

Sun., March 15

Theater: In Theatre Charlotte’s theatrical production Death of a Salesman, a former salesman reflects on his failures in life and the people surrounding him, as his final destination approaches.

Sports: Get out of the house and into Time Warner Cable Arena for some ice action when the Charlotte Checkers take on the South Carolina Stingrays.

Art: Gaze upon works by big names in the art world, including Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and lots more at Mint Museum of Art’s newest exhibition Masterpieces from the New Orleans Museum of Art.
