Operation Slow Down is in effect

As a reformed speeder, with an insurance rate to prove it, I can tell you with certainty: Slowing down won't hurt you, you're not getting anywhere all that much faster and you owe it to everyone else on the roads to behave behind the wheel. Just ask Officer Proctor, who killed a 20-year-old woman Sunday night in a speed-related accident.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol and local police departments have launched a crackdown on speeders, scheduled to continue through the Easter holiday weekend.

Operation Slow Down began Monday, and troopers plan to aggressively enforce speed limits on the state's highways through April 12.
