The Charlotte Film Community, a new group for local filmmakers, actors and others, will hold its first meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 6, at the Morehead Street Tavern, 300 E. Morehead St. Presented by the Charlotte Film Festival, the group -- which is scheduled to meet the first Monday of each month -- will consist of actors, directors, crew members, producers, agents and anyone else interested in local filmmaking.
Maggie Sargent, one of the group organizers (as well as an actress and filmmaker herself), states, "There is a real need for this type of group. The film community in Charlotte is strong, but dispersed at the moment. It's our hope that the group will bring people together so we can get more projects started and show the rest of the world that Charlotte is a great place to make films."
Sargent will co-host the first meeting with casting director Juli Emmons. The event's special guest will be Beth Petty, director of the Charlotte Regional Film Commission; she will discuss the state of film in North Carolina and answer questions afterward.
Admission to attend the event is $5. During the meeting, representatives from the Charlotte Film Festival (held this year Sept. 21-27) will discuss a new filmmaking contest that will be open only to area moviemakers.
