So Charlotte Bobcats owner Robert Johnson (who, unfortunately, is no relation to the legendary 1930s bluesman, but IS the proud recipient of Creative Loafing's 2008 Best of Charlotte Local Zero award), is looking for a buyer for the team. Everybody is all "Oh, he can't sell the team in this economy" or "Nobody's gonna wanna buy a team the city doesn't really care about that much," but I think that kind of thinking is counterproductive, so I volunteer to start the bidding. Seriously, Johnson is part of the reason interest in the Bobcats has remained low naming the team after yourself but rarely showing up for games, and then griping that the city's not doing enough to support your business, will do that to a community's feelings about a team (that, along with overpriced seats and a string of losing seasons) and I figure with a new owner, the pizzazz will come back and the money will start flowing like water. Thus, I officially announce my opening bid for ownership of the Bobcats. Mr. Johnson (can I call you Bob?), please accept my offer of $11,500, with $500 paid up front and subsequent payments of $100 per month. Top that, Bruton Smith! To accept the offer, just email me at Creative Loafing, john.grooms@creativeloafing.com.
