Charlotte Youth Ballet will present performances of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker - featuring Laura Valentín and José Rodríguez from the Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico - at Central Piedmont Community College's Halton Theater Dec. 4-6. Tickets are $16-$20. Show dates/times are as followed: Dec. 4, 7 p.m.; Dec. 5 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; Dec. 6, 2:30 p.m. For more information and tickets, call 704-330-6534 or click here.

Pirates will invade Halton Theater on Jan. 15, 2010, when performances of The Pirates of Penzance kick off. This comedy-driven production, presented by CPCC's Opera Theatre, follows a young pirate, Frederic, who after leaving his hardy har har lifestyle falls in love with Major-General Stanley's daughter, Mabel. One can only imagine that's enough to shiver Stanley's timbers, but even rougher waters are in store, as Frederic's former pirate crew arrives on shore to become land lubbers and to capture the rest of Stanley's daughters' hands in marriage.
