The latest bombshell to hit the N.C. General Assembly, particularly the Democrats there, landed today courtesy of WRAL in Raleigh. Tony Rand, for a long time one of the most powerful members of the state Senate and currently the Senate majority leader, is being accused of insider trading and other violations by Paul Feldman, the former CEO of Law Enforcement Associates, a security products company where Rand is a board member.
Rand announced in November that he would leave the legislature, giving up his powerful post as Senate majority leader, in order to join the state parole commission, a move that had lots of political observers scratching their heads. As the BlueNC website put it, “Anyone know if Jim Black is looking for a bunk mate?”
