Spring Awakening

Belk Theater

Spring Awakening is a sizzling musical created Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik that’s based off of the controversial 1891 German expressionist play by Frank Wedekind. It captures tough subject matter and transitions from youth to adulthood with catchy rock numbers chiming in throughout. Check it out this weekend at Belk Theater.

Art Center of the Earth's first new exhibition of the new year, TEN for 2010, includes a mix of paintings, collages, and sculptures by 10 (surprise, surprise) artists, including Jacob Cooley, Sharon Dowell, Scott Fraser, Patrick Glover, Scott Hill, Page Laughlin, Ruth Ava Lyons, Nancy Scheinman, Paul Sires, and Scott Upton. The exhibition will be unveiled tonight during NoDa's gallery crawl. more...

Music The Charleston-based jam band Sol Driven Train sticks to Charlotte’s side of the tracks tonight for a performance of straight up Southern pop rock ditties at Double Door Inn. more...

7th Year Anniversary Party

The Breakfast Club

It's just too damn bad we can't see Michael Jackson perform a live show (that's why when you want to see someone in concert you should seize the day. After all, you never know when their doc might be a "smooth criminal" and give them too many meds). Keeping that in mind, when B. Jackson - a popular Michael Jackson impersonator, dubbed an "impressionist" - visits the Q.C. for The Breakfast Club's 7th Year Anniversary Party tonight, you'd better not put it off. B. Jackson will be performing three sets of '80s favorites by the King of Pop.

Benefit As cold as it is outside, there’s nothing like a good, pipin’ hot bowl of soup. Needless to say the Souper Bowl VI, a soup cook-off and competition happening at Davidson College today is the place to be. At the event, folks taste a medley of soup concoctions from restaurants in the Lake Norman area, and vote for their faves in a number of different categories. In addition, live entertainment and a silent auction are in mix. And it’s for a good cause, as it all benefits Hands Around Mecklenburg Making Emergency Repairs Safely. more...

Special Event Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it, so why not start the wooing early? Carolina Voices will present its V-day concert, Love-Sexy: Inspire the Fire tonight at McGlohon Theatre. Music in the show will include classical to popular love songs and more to be performed by Carolina Voices and special guests. In addition, local ballroom dancers will perform. But, that’s not all. The ultimate way to win one’s heart begins with a pre-concert champagne and chocolate tasting. With luck, you’ll be singing something like Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” before the concert even begins. more...

Madea's Big Happy Family

Bojangles' Coliseum

When Tyler Perry parades through Bojangles' Coliseum tonight, you can expect he'll be in full cross-dressing gear, (a gray wig, a dress, panty hose, accessories, and makeup - there's no forgetting the lipstick!) as he takes to playing the part of his argumentative altar ego, Madea. The feisty character, an old woman who is set in her ways and frequently pulls a gun out of her handbag to solve dilemmas, stars once again as the dazzling attention-getter in Perry's 13th stage play, Madea's Big Happy Family.

Theater Performed by four actors/musicians, Woody Sez at Booth Playhouse takes audiences on a journey through the life of Woody Guthrie with a theatrical concert combo featuring more than 25 of his songs. more...

Festival Watch the big game on the big screen during Super Sunday at Alley Cat, hosted by Rock House Events and Lazy Day. The action also includes a special buffet, as well as door prizes and giveaways during each quarter of the game. more...
