Now, allow me to answer the question. I'll do so with something a local artist once told me. Here goes ... "We're all pink underneath."
Race is a social construct, often confused throughout history to make certain people seem better or worse than others. So, I'll repeat: "We're all pink underneath." We're all human beings, deserving of the same rights and respect as every other human being.
One more thing, we in the South tend to think of race issues as only involving African Americans and Caucasians. We need to broaden the discussion. To help get you started, check out this video from The New York Times:
