CAROLINA REBELLION
There's a fine line between "It could be better," and "It could be worse." Now in its third year, Carolina Rebellion is finding slow improvement to its metal-focused lineup. This year, they mined the '90s grunge archives for Sunday headliner Soundgarden and Saturday headliner Alice in Chains, while spicing up the undercard with Rise Against and Deftones. Unfortunately, those are balanced by the "Are they still playing?" additions of Limp Bizkit, Bush and Papa Roach. However, when 3 Doors Down dropped out after recent legal issues, they wisely chose Sevendust as the replacement. So, yep, there's a lot of metal, plenty of pop sensibility and more than a handful of bands which all sound alike. All that being said, Chris Cornell and co. are the brightest beacon on a weekend that could have been so much better, or again, so much worse. Sunday's lineup includes Soundgarden, Sevendust, Rise Against and Nonpoint. $79.50 and up. May 5, 11 a.m. Charlotte Motor Speedway, 7301 Bruton Smith Blvd., Concord. 888.512.SHOW.
