Comic Afterthoughts The Pull List (8/21/13): Marvel's Infinity continues to spread

Following last week's debut of Infinity, the name of Marvel's latest event and its titular, core series, the company continues to roll out books under the moniker. Jonathan Hickman, the man behind former Title You Can't Miss "East of West," is the scribe behind the tale, which involves space, Thanos, Avengers, X-Men, Inhumans, and even the Spaceknights. The core series is accompanied by issues of Avengers and New Avengers, which allow readers to make their own path through the story with the aspects of it they want to explore. But of course, the nerdiest of us (your dear blogger, included) will buy all of it. Because I'm a slave to this machine.

And there's also the usual slew of tie-in issues. This week, readers get the Avengers #18 component of the event, as well as the Avengers Assemble #18 tie-in. The most poignant line in the first issue of Infinity comes from Iron Man: "I'm getting tired of end of the world scenarios." I would usually agree with Ol' Shellhead, but the set-up of this story (with Hickman's signature white pages of breaks, subtitles and even a castmember display) has more than piqued my interest.
This week's Title You Can't Miss is Superman Unchained #3. It's a tad bit goofy of a name for a comic (as the idea of Superman being chained is like that one time you had your middle-school friends "hold you back" so you wouldn't fight Marty Simpson, but you really didn't want to fight him anyway and could have broken free at any time), but the series has been an absolutely solid character arc by writer Scott Snyder and now-veteran artist Jim Lee. How old does Lee's superlative make you feel?
