The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved a resolution Tuesday that calls on the General Assembly to pass teacher raises in the short session, reinstate the advanced-degree salary supplements, and let the district create its own teacher compensation plans. When the second-largest district in the state talks, we should probably listen.
Part of the incentives deal Charlotte and Mecklenburg County penned with Chiquita required the fruit company's global headquarters remain in Charlotte for 10 years, or it would have to repay money it received through the deal. So why are city and county mum on whether they'll seek the $1 million Chiquita has already received?
