Gay marriage could be legal in North Carolina in as little as nine days. Because the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up appellate cases that concern same-sex marriage it will become legal in five states, including Virginia. The North Carolina ACLU is calling for an immediate ruling on our state's marriage ban, known as Amendment One.

Looks like Clay Aiken has some fight in him. The former American Idol contestant vying for Rep. Renee Elmer's seat in Congress squared off with the Republican in a debate on Monday, calling her part of the problem with Washington (“It’s a shame that you still believe that John Boehner is your boss,” he said). Elmers dismissed Aiken as an entertainer.

In other political news, Vice President Joe Biden continues to apologies for his own comments. Biden just wrapped up an "apology" tour in the Middle East in which he asked allies for forgiveness after saying they backed extremist groups in Syria.

The mother of a 4-year-old is in custody after her daughter brought heroin to school thinking it was candy. The little girl found 249 baggies of heroin in a backpack her mother lent her and handed them out to her classmates. Several children were taken to a hospital as a precaution but were later released.

Don't Siri and drive.
