First Drip (10/21/14): County to decentralize human services, RIP Oscar de la Renta, more

Mecklenburg County plans to decentralize its human services to better serve growing communities that are in need and not necessarily near Uptown. "The master plan for county-owned facilities calls for a crescent of six service districts that swoops from east Charlotte around uptown and then south toward Pineville — where the latest census numbers show most of Mecklenburg’s distressed areas are clustered and spreading."

In more county news, a Department of Social Services employee sold customer information to a company for $10,000. Ieshia Hicks Watkins, who has already plead guilty to Medicaid fraud and is awaiting sentencing, emailed the names of 25 children to Peaceful Alternative Resources, in Charlotte, in 2010.

The "King of Evening" has died. Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, whose career spanned decades and whose dresses adorned everyone from Hillary Clinton to Rhianna, passed away yesterday. He was 82.

Ohio Governor John Kasich - a Republican and a potential 2016 presidential contender - told the Associated Press that Obamacare is here to stay before backtracking on his comments. "The opposition to it was really either political or ideological," Kasich said. "I don't think that holds water against real flesh and blood, and real improvements in people's lives." He later told his Twitter followers the AP got it wrong.

Wondering why the cost of oil has suddenly gone down?
