Resolution Solution: 10 races coming to the area

If getting in shape is on your list of resolutions for 2015, go big or go home. Here's a list of upcoming races in Charlotte, from 5Ks to obstacle courses, to get your blood pumping. Register as soon as possible to set those goals into motion.

First Footin' 5 Miler Trail Race at Historic Rural Hill The term "First Footin'" comes from Scottish tradition, where it represented festivities associated with New Year. Rural Hill presents its own celebration, also dubbed as Hogmanay, and it all kicks off with a 5-mile race. It's a terrain-style course, so come prepared for a woodsy experience. Resolution Race Series at Fort Mill Branch YMCA The purpose of this series is to get folks to jumpstart the new year with a 5K and work their way up to a half-marathon over the course of 13 weeks (and other scheduled races). Super Bowl Run at Bank of America Stadium Show some spirit for your favorite football team during this 4-mile run. The course will start and finish at Bank of America Stadium, where down markers will be replaced with mile markers, course officials will be dressed as referees,and the finish line will be the end zone. Frigid 5K at U.S. National Whitewater Center Valentine's Day makes everyone a little crazy, doesn't it? This race ends with a quick, chilly dip in the river. Feb. 14, 8 a.m. U.S. National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway. 704-391-3900. www.usnwc.org.

Cupid's Undie Run at Rooftop 210 Strip down to your undies for this race in the heart of Uptown. Who knows, maybe you'll even meet a special someone? The event raises money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Doors open and the party starts at 12 p.m.; undie run at 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.cupidsundierun.com/city/charlotte/. Krispy Kreme Race - Run 4 Reading in Rock Hill "One hour, four miles, and 12 doughnuts" pretty much says it all for this challenge. The run consists of a 4-mile loop beginning and ending at Winthrop University. There's also a stop in the new downtown Rock Hill Fountain Park, where participants can scarf down a dozen donuts before racing back to the finish line. Color Me Green 5K at U.S. National Whitewater Center Before you start drinking the day away, consider honoring Saint Patrick by getting physical. Runners will also get green dye thrown on them. The Color Run at Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Folks who just can't wait for The Color Run to come to Charlotte on May 30, should consider making the trek up to Winston. Don't forget to wear white. The Great Amazing Race at Pineville Lake Park Teams of two people (adults and kids, grades K-12) race against each other around a 1-mile cross country course. But to make things a bit more complicated, teams will also have to complete different challenges every 200 yards. Clue cards provided at stations. Fight for Air Climb Charlotte at The Vue Here's to hoping you're no stranger to the stair master! This race involves climbing stairs to the top of The Vue, a 50-story complex. All the huffing and puffing is to raise funds for education and research for lung disease. For more information or to register, visit www.climbcharlotte.org.
