Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap - $10 or less - things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).

Science on the Rocks: Fire & Ice at Discovery Place: An adults-only night featuring an indoor snowfall, fire shows and a special fire dancing performance by Satya, an igloo building challenge, a hot sauce challenge, a curling demonstration with members of the Charlotte Curling Association, liquid nitrogen wine slushies and more. Discovery Place, 301 N. Tryon St. 704-372-6261. www.discoveryplace.org.

Sid Davis at The Comedy Zone Fort Mill: A local, Charlotte comedian that's funny and well worth the $10 admission fee. Show Davis some love and he'll make you laugh. $10. Jan. 16-17, 8 p.m. & 10:15 p.m. The Comedy Zone Fort Mill at Madison's On The Corner, 900 Crossroads Plaza. 803-802-3990. www.thecomedyzonefortmill.weebly.com.

Petapalooza at Charlotte Nature Museum: If you have pets, leave your pets at home for this event. It's geared toward showcasing exotic and rescued pets (some of which are available for adoption) and teaching the public about responsible pet ownership. Jan. 17, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Charlotte Nature Museum, 1658 Sterling Road.

Survivor: League of Independent Theatres of Charlotte at UpStage: Theatre-themed competition with 12 representatives from local theatre companies. They'll be forced to complete in some pretty intense challenges. The sole "survivor" wins $100 cash and gets to donate $50 to a charity of their choice. $5 suggested donation. Jan. 18, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. UpStage, 3306 N. Davidson St. www.upstagenoda.com.
