An unidentified official is stating that last night's fire at a black church near Charleston was not arson. Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal in Greeleyville, South Carolina was targeted by the Ku Klux Klan 20 years ago and suspicions arose on social media that the fire could be connected to a string of recent black church fires following a mass shooting at a black church in Charleston and the resulting dialogue regarding the Confederate flag.
The Charlotte Area Transportation System has found a new leader after six months with nobody in charge. John Lewis Jr., CEO of Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority's bus system, will be the new head of CATS come August.
A gunman was shot and killed by a bystander on Monday after shooting his grandmother in Charlotte's Belmont neighborhood. The suspect reportedly shot his grandmother during an argument in a car, causing her to crash the car on Pegram Street. When the suspect exited the vehicle and continued to threaten the woman, a nearby neighbor shot and killed him, fearing for the woman's life.

Mark Weaver, the city's new consultant, formerly worked with the U.S. Department of Justice briefing media about police brutality cases.
