Lunch Break (6/1/16): Dreams of getting to work on time shattered on I-77 this morning

A truck spilled its load of glass onto I-77 northbound this morning near Uptown, shattering the panes and causing heavy delays on the interstate. The incident happened near Remount Road at around 5:30 a.m. and wasn't fully cleaned up until 8 a.m. (WBTV Web Staff) 

An early morning house fire in west Charlotte has left a family without a home. The fire reportedly began in the attic of a Darby Avenue home at around 4 a.m. No one sleeping in the home — two adults, three children and two dogs — was injured. Red Cross has been called in to help the family. (Fox46 Staff) 

A man allegedly carrying out a robbery at a Concord business was shot and killed by a security guard last night, according to police. The suspect, along with another man, allegedly entered a ConcordOverStock.com office at around 10:30 p.m. and one was shot by an armed security guard. The other suspect fled the scene. (WSOC Staff) 

A federal appeals court has refused to reconsider the decision made by a three-judge panel in Virginia on a case regarding whether transgender students can be allowed to use the restroom of the gender they identify with. Last month, the panel stated that a transgender male student was discriminated against by not being allowed to use the boy's restroom. The case — now expected to head to the U.S. Supreme Court — has implications for pending lawsuits between North Carolina and the U.S. Department of Justice regarding House Bill 2. One of two survivors of a plane crash in Boone last month has passed away, according to a GoFundMe page run by his family. Steve Berry was aboard the plane that crash-landed on a golf course in Boone on April 25. Benjamin Chappell, a 69-year-old former state trooper, was killed on the scene of the wreck. Berry and John Worsley, II, were both hospitalized following the crash. (WCNC Staff)
