I'm really tired of the Gwen/Fergie songs that spell words. At least Fergie can joke about it:
So, what'd you think of the Grammys? Glad I'm not the only one who's tired of Kanye West's attitude. I thought Vince Gill and Usher were hilarious when they gave him a hard time.
So, here are my thoughts on last night's show:
- Alicia Keys kicked if off with a duet with a taped Frank Sinatra performance. I thought it was well done and a good start for the 50th Anniversary edition.
The Jill Scott show scheduled for April 4 in Charlotte has been cancelled.
Blind Boys of Alabama w/ Mavis Staples
Duke University, Durham
Feb. 8, 2008
Review by Grant Britt
You don’t follow the Blind Boys of Alabama. If they lead, you get out of the way. That’s the lesson Mavis Staples learned the hard way Friday night at Duke University’s Soul Power Series. Though her name appeared first on the bill for the sold-out show, the opening act, the Blind Boys, blew her off the stage.
Martin Scorsese will be at the helm of a Bob Marley documentary, according to Variety.
The movie, which has gained the endorsement of the Marley family, has not yet been titled and is scheduled for release on Feb. 6, 2010 — what would have been Marley's 65th birthday.

Solomon Burke w/ The Dixie Hummingbirds
Duke University
Feb. 2, 2008
Review By Grant Britt
It was billed as "The Definition of Soul: Solomon Burke with The Dixie Hummingbirds" at Duke University’s Page Auditorium. Part of a two-month long program Duke calls "Soul Power: From Gospel to Godfather," the Feb. 2 show was an electrifying presentation of the roots of soul.
Here's a quick list of some of the albums being released this week:
Sheryl Crow "Detours"
Hot Chip "Made in the Dark"
Jack Johnson "Sleep Through the Static"
Lenny Kravitz "It's Time for a Love Revolution"
k.d. lang "Watershed"
Jill Scott "Live in Paris"
