Iced Earth with Into Eternity and Saviours
Amos' Southend

The Deal: The American heavy metal band Iced Earth thrashed into Amos' Southend for a power-ridden metal performance on Fri., Sept. 26. Along with the band were heavy metal groups Into Eternity and Saviours.
The Good: The Canada-based metal band Into Eternity began the set with an intense bit of fist pounding metal. The band played songs from its 2008 album, The Incurable Tragedy and talked between songs about the album's main concepts about cancer. They also urged the crowd to think about donating hair locks for a good cause. Shortly after Into Eternity's set, the Oakland, California-based band Saviours hit the stage. Music-wise the band delivered some pretty hard and powerful noise. But, when Iced Earth took the stage, the real havoc began. The band, who has existed since 1991 played songs from a variety of albums including "Storm Rider" from 1992's Night of the Stormrider, "Burning Times" and "Melancholy" from 1998's Something Wicked This Way Comes, "Dracula" from 2001's Horror Show, "Ten Thousand Strong" from 2007's Framing Armageddon: Something Wicked Part 1 and "I Walk Alone" from 2008's The Crucible of Man: Something Wicked Part 2, among plenty of others.
The Bad: There's always a chance at live shows that a bands music may drown out the groups vocals. At this show this was less of an issue with Iced Earth, whose vocals and music stayed balanced. But, both opening bands, Into Eternity and Saviours seemed to struggle with this type of balance. At times, it was impossible to hear the vocals through all the whip lash of metal blows.
The Verdict: Headliners Iced Earth put on an extreme metal show that fans and newbie head bangers alike could appreciate. Although both opening acts didn't really leave a big impression, Iced Earth made it crystal clear just why they are favored in the world of heavy metal with its performance.
