Remember the old days, when good bands played the MTV Video Music Awards and you could watch the show to get your hand on the pulse of music?
Yeah, those days are long gone. I watched parts of last night's awards show and decided they have become completely irrelevant after Britney Spears won an award for "Best Female Video." Seriously? Did she even have a new song out?
Then they gave an award away for "Best Dancing in a Video" - yeah, cause it's all about the music, right?
Then Spears won for "Best Pop Video" and, get this, "Video of the Year."
After the show, gossip-monger Perez Hilton said he voted for Spears because she's had a rough year. Again, it's all about the music/videos right?
Lil Wayne grabbed himself so much he must be afraid it's gonna fall off, Kanye West closed the show with a boring performance (cracks me up that he didn't win, again), Russell Brand was a horrible host, The freakin' Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus performed... What a waste.
John McCain and Sarah Palin have been asked to stop using Heart's song "Barracuda" to promote vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, who is nicknamed the "Barracuda" from her basketball days.
After the song was played during the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, the band asked them to stop. So, on Thursday...the song was played again.
My favorite part of the story is the comment from the band: "Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late '70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."
The next time someone says to me, Theres nothing to do in Charlotte! I am going to offer them some cheese with their wine, then ask them what theyre smoking.

Yesterday afternoon at 1 p.m. I couldnt even get to Kinkos for work because theres a full-fledged festival going on in a church parking lot on East Boulevard. As in the Yiasou Greek Festival. Meanwhile, last night Nelly performed live on MySpace from the Neighborhood Theatre in NoDa. Theres almost too much to do in Charlotte

As you probably noticed, the Sunset Club closed for renovations about the same time Suite opened. Well, they didnt just renovate the club, they also renovated the ownership. Panthers player Jason Kyle was bought out by the owners of the mansion where the infamous Lucid Dreams party was held.
I actually went there to visit the set of the photo shoot of the new and improved Sunset Club advertisement that is running in the Loaf as we speak, or type rather. The shoot was more like a party with cameras and a glam squad.
The said photo shoot was arranged to promote the clubs re-opening scheduled for this weekend. They used the actual furniture from the Sunset Club on the shoot and used members as models. In other words, what you see in the ad is what you get.
