Treats and tricks...

Posted By on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 11:55 AM

Would anyone like some treats with their tricks?

I remember in my childhood Halloween use to mean playing dress up, trick-or-treating and visiting pumpkin patches to carve pumpkins and make homemade pumpkin pie. But now, as an adult, Halloween has transformed into “Dress Like a Slut Night.” Someone has apparently appointed Halloween as the one night girls can go out wearing less clothes than a stripper without other girls hating on them.

And when selecting a costume they just throw slutty or sexy in front of it... Slutty nurse, sexy devil, slutty Girl Scout, sexy cop. I tried the slut thing, a few years ago I went out as a slutty referee and realized I did not enjoy going out half naked — it’s cold in October. Perhaps someone should consider moving “Dress Like a Slut Night” to a summer month.

This year Halloween falls on a Friday, making it a Halloweekend. Although Halloween parties seem to go on throughout the entire month of October, below is a list of the parties just on the 31st...

The Boys are back in town

Posted By on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 10:50 AM

The buzz all over town is tonight's Beastie Boys concert at Amos' Southend. While the $35 tickets sold out in minutes online, you can still find some via craigslist — some for as much as $100.

There's also a rumor flying about that the band may be in town for an afternoon performance with Tenacious D, but that one's still unconfirmed.

Update: Beastie Boys, Sheryl Crow and Santogold appeared at CPCC today, briefly. The Boys did a quick speech about voting before Sheryl Crow hit the stage to perform for about 20 minutes.

Live...from New York

Posted By on Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 3:05 PM

I am in a New York state of mind...Perhaps because I am sitting on a Jet Blue flight relishing in the fact I didn’t have to pay to check my luggage and enjoying my free soda and snacks.

10-in-10

Posted By on Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 10:30 AM

Each Friday, we'll bring you 10 random CD reviews done in 10 words.

Ala Muerte Santa Elena — Sleepy-sounding group will be at the Milestone in November.

Bring Me The Horizon Suicide Season — Hard to get past disgusting album cover for bad metalcore.

Dark Dark Dark The Snow Magic — Somber, circus-sounding quartet with lackluster harmonies offer debut disc.

Electric Touch Electric Touch — Pop and rock come together with hint of the ’80s.

Hey! Brontosaurus Life Stars — Rock outfit borrows a little too much from The Clash.

Mary Mary The Sound — Meant for random dance clubs, duo releases 12 forgettable tracks.

The Tony Rich Project Exist — Straight-up R&B with so much falsetto it's almost cheesy.

Three Second Kiss Long Distance — Stop-start funky rock leaves a lot to be desired.

Various Fabric 43: Metro Area — 23 horrible tracks of disco/techno with worst intro ever.

Michelle Williams Unexpected — One-third of Destiny’s Child releases over-produced third disc.
