The Avett Brothers just played with Dave Matthews Band on Friday night, but they're already planning their return.
The band will perform at Bojangles Coliseum on Aug. 8 as the CD Release party for the its upcoming album, I and Love and You, produced by Rick Rubin.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday. Brett Dennen is supporting.

Old School Freight Train Birthed in Virginia as a "new grass" combo, OSFT has evolved into a somber and jazzy Americana and roots unit. Creating gentle rock mingled with antique bluegrass, country and roots flourishes, OSFT is touring in support of the new disc Six Years. The recording includes a damn intriguing, slo-mo Americana version of Blondie's "Heart of Glass," creating a mellow, shuffling vibe throughout that won't leave from your ears so easily. Fleetwood Mac In 1987, Santa Cruz weirdo rockers Camper Van Beethoven holed up in a mountain cabin, ingested titanic doses of painkillers, and recorded their own front-to-back take on Fleetwood Mac's 1979, double-disc mega-flop Tusk. I mention this because CVB's stoned-out-of-our-skulls-version (only released in 2002) turned out to be way more interesting, though like most things Mac-related, it's the back story – like the two cocaine-fueled relationship wars played out among Mac members on their 1977 chart-topping staple, Rumours – that's more compelling than the actual music. Just went over the Amos' SouthEnd Web site and saw a banner at the top of the calendar that states:
Amos' Is Now Non-Smoking
The Evening Muse and Neighborhood Theatre are also non-smoking. Who's next? Visulite?

Foxnews.com has put up a list of 10 songs that are torture on the ears:

"Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney
I think it's hard to include McCartney in that list, simply because of all the other good songs he has released, where the other bands haven't done much of anything. Sure, Starship was great as Jefferson Airplane, but they didn't do jack as Starship. McCartney released good stuff in all forms.
I also think we'd need to add in something by Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears and a whole bunch of other "singers."

Have opinions about the Charlotte music scene or music in general that you'd like to share with readers?
We're looking for a few good contributors to write weekly posts right here on this blog. It's music journalism, so you know there's probably no money involved, but if enough people read your post, or if things work out, maybe there's some payola in your future.
This is not a way to get free CDs and concert tickets. It's a way to share your views about an area of the music scene that you feel like we aren't paying enough attention to. Maybe you want to share your list of "top 10 guitar solos of all time," review of a concert you went to or thoughts on a new band, or an old one. Or perhaps you're in a band and want to share stories of life on the road, in the studio and on stage.
The idea is to get more voices and views shared with the public. Interested people should e-mail me at jeff.hahne@creativeloafing.com for more details.
Think it's a waste of time? Showing my love of music writing by doing it for free for six years is one part of why I was hired for this job as music editor...

Aerosmith is hitting the road this summer, and they're bringing along ZZ Top. The groups will perform in Charlotte at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on July 9.

The Deal: I am at risk of becoming a Coyote Joe regular; that was my third time there in a month. I was boot scooting and boogying the week before to Jason Aldean and to Lee Brice a few weeks prior to that. Like Church’s song people were drinking a little drink and smoking a little smoke … outside (cause Coyote Joe's has gone smoke free … Thank God).
