What were you doing the day after your 15th birthday?
If I remember correctly, when I was 15, I was personally hoping some chick from my high school was down to play 'just the tip,' and I definitely wasn't signing a major record deal, but young Diggy Simmons did just that yesterday.
The 15-year old son of RUN DMC's Rev Run saw his internet buzz from truly impressive freestyles and a mixtape turn into a record deal with Atlantic Records. Rumors circulated last week that the "prodigy" had agreed to a deal with the label but since nothing was official, the label issued a statement dispelling those.
In case you missed our past posts on Diggy, check out his most recent freestyle, "Just The Beginning" over Drake's "Over" beat.
Local quartet Wavy Space will be performing on The Jerry Springer Show on March 31 on Fox. They wrote a song, "Springer," about the television show known for brawls, infidelity and men who are actually women.
Check out a video of the song being performed at Fox Charlotte:

Little Dragon w/ VV Brown
The Milestone
March 21, 2010
The Deal: Sweden's Little Dragon brings along England's VV Brown for a late night of energetic music.
Crown Royalty: The History of Charlotte Hip-Hop is a fascinating look at the people who helped mold Charlottes hip-hop scene on the street level, written, directed and produced by Johnson C. Smith alum, Mehka.
The documentary clocks in a little over 30 minutes and uncovers gems about the scene like the late Nate Quick's hand in keeping it going, cool little stories like Diggy Die mapping out Liquor House Records while sitting in the old satellite jail on N. Tryon Street and the interviewees reminisce fondly on the iconic venues that were the center of the scene.
One of the dopest things for me was the story of Dirty 130, a group I remember loving in 9th grade, whose hit song locally, I've literally spent hours of down time trying to find and add to my music library.
The Gruesome Twosome Tour with Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper will stop by the Uptown Amphitheatre on May 19. Tickets go on sale on Friday, March 26.
