So, as all of Charlotte knows by now, Paul McCartney will be performing at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte on July 28. However, we're not so sure that McCartney, or at least his merchandise people, know where he'll be.
We just got this photo sent to us by a fan who went to the Denver concert:
Under t-shirt #7, #8 and #9, you can see that the back of the shirts list the July 28 show as being in Raleigh. Let's hope they get those fixed before next week.
It's easy to sit behind a computer and be a Southern music snob.
Waka Flocka Flame seems to be one of the easier targets of that disdain these days but when an artist like him goes national, you have to climb down from the ivory tower and notice. Sure, the South may not be putting our best foot forward lyrically but there's something to say about someone re-energizing crunk music nationally. Who are we to judge it's merit? (Critics, that's who! But that's another post)
Ocoai
Snug Harbor
July 17, 2010
The Deal: Instrumental rockers Ocoai played out Snug Harbor with Gruppe 36 and Machete.
The Good: A down-home, good ol boy rock band from Johnson City, Tenn., that just got tired of lyrics. That is Ocoai, and they were surprisingly good for a band that specializes in 13-minute rock epics in a time where 3-minute radio-friendly pop songs rule the medium.
As a fan of 80s thrash metal, I was pleased with the banging of heads and swinging of guitars in unison. But it wasnt something that could easily be parodied like a Cinderella video. What was impressive to me was their chemistry between each other on stage. They read each others mannerisms well and fed off of them to produce a well-oiled rock machine that stayed glued together for the length of the show.
Rock Hill, S.C., isn't quite Charlotte, but it's close enough for this Local Leak.
Singer Rudy Currence is a Rock Hill native who has made a name for himself in soul circles as a rising talent. Aside from inking a deal with Disturbing The Peace/Island Def Jam, he's been on the road, proving what all the fuss is about.
When he re-imagined Outkast's classic "Elevators," I couldn't have been the only one holding their breath on the results. Thankfully, he didn't bastardize the record, instead flipping it into a soulful, 'you and me baby' ode to women that I'm positive will be used to someone's advantage whenever the DJ decides to drop it at their local lounge.
Less than a week old, the record's already gone international, with the artist posting proudly on his Facebook page that it played in Sydney, Australia on Saturday.
His new album, "Black Keys and Blue Skies" is set to release later this year.

The rescheduled date for 30 Seconds to Mars, who had to cancel an earlier Charlotte show date "due to illness," is now set for Oct. 13 at The Fillmore Charlotte.
Opening bands are Neon Trees and New Politics.
Rodrigo y Gabriela will perform at The Fillmore Charlotte on Oct. 16. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 23, at 10 a.m.
The duo has been performing together for more than 15 years and bring their heavy metal backgrounds into an instrumental, acoustic format. It's impressive to watch as Gabriela Quintero will flick and hit her guitar to create more of a percussion style while Rodrigo Sanchez usually takes the lead.
At Bonnaroo in 2007, the duo quickly established a large crowd for their late-night set as passersby continually asked me, "Who is this? They're amazing!" Few left after hearing their music ring out.
The next time around, the duo was on Bonnaroo's main stage.
Check them out on an original song, "Tamacun":

The indie duo N.A.S.A., Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon, have been around for a while now.
Their 2009 album, The Spirit of Apollo, made some critics top 10 lists but what's more interesting to me is that they happen to be the proud owners of ODB's last recorded verse. How they got an Ol' Dirty Bastard collabo? No clue. Why they held the verse for six years since his death? No clue. But is this video dope? Yep.
Joining N.A.S.A. and ODB on the track is Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Fatlip from The Pharcyde. I'll let you dissect the religious symbolism on your own time but as always, enjoy.
