Will Smith's 9-year-old daughter has signed a record deal with Jay-Z. Her first single, "Whip My Hair," has hit the Internet and tons of people are listening... unfortunately.
First off, shouldn't a 9-year-old be focused on school and getting an education before worrying about a record deal?
Second - I'll admit she hits some notes and has a decent voice and the song shows maturity for a 9-year-old although the "whip my hair" chorus is freakin' annoying. I'm 99 percent sure that there's no way in hell that a 9-year-old wrote the song, either.
Thirdly - can't Will and Jada just let their kids be kids instead of sticking them in the limelight?
Maybe she'll go out on the "Pretty Much Just Annoying Tour" with Justin Beiber.
A quick note of congratulations to The Avett Brothers who won the Best duo/group of the Year award at the Americana Music Awards last night.
Weezer got the guys from Jackass to get involved in their video for the song "Memories." Looks like it also has some clips from the new Jackass 3-D movie.
Enjoy

The Deal: '90s alt-rockers continue their tour in celebration of the Doolittle album, playing the album in its entirety along with some B-sides and favorites.
SIN ROPAS Former Red Red Meat bassist Tim Hurley and his missus Danni Iosello are Sin Ropas. The multi-instrumentalist duo's eclectic compositions are best enjoyed in dim, flickering lights. They take their time winding around genres and musical byways with lo-fi swirls, muffled vocals, lost-and-found electronica flourishes and the rootsy zip of banjo. This is a fab triple bill with our own Houstons and Italy's Father Murphy. $7-$9, The Milestone, www.themilestoneclub.com

The MTV Video Music Awards show will air this Sunday night at 9 p.m. Remember when it was cool? I remember watching them usually around the time when we'd go back to school because you cared who won. You wanted to watch amazing performances. You could also expect to see a surprise or two, or even an off-the-wall collaboration.
I remember back when Tom Petty came out to sing with Guns N Roses. I remember Pee Wee Herman coming out to start the show after his arrest. I recall, unfortunately, Michael Jackson walking out to kiss Lisa Marie Presley. However, I can't say I remember much of anything about the last, oh, 10 years or so of VMAs.
So, what can we expect this year? Eminem is set to kick off the show. I'm sure Lady Gaga will wear at least two or three different and bizarre outfits and probably walk away as the night's big winner.
Outside of that, does MTV even play any videos anymore? They sure don't on MTV. They used to on MTV2, but that seems to have gone the way of reality TV, as well. I heard there's an MTV3 out there, but no one is watching.
You're probably wondering who's even nominated... So, here is a complete list (along with my comments):

Well, Lady Gaga sure isn't going to make any PETA or vegetarian friends with this one... She's now featured on the cover of Vogue Japan in a meat bikini. Yep, a meat bikini.
Really not sure what else to say about it:
