Kanye West gets release date

Posted By on Mon, Oct 4, 2010 at 3:11 PM

Via his new favorite site, Kanye West announced the release date for his next album, which has yet to be titled.

ye

West thought giving listeners free music every Friday leading up to the release date would keep people from leaking material, but after being slapped with the realization that this is the internet, and his content was leaked anyway, he's moved forward with a resolve to sell despite everyone getting it for free first.

I don't know what he's worried about, he's essentially a lock for that number-one spot come November 22.

Cebu Pacific flight attendants dance to Lady Gaga

Posted By on Mon, Oct 4, 2010 at 1:04 PM

So, here's the latest viral video going around...

Flight attendants on the airline Cebu Pacific have decided to choreograph their safety instructions to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. I would guess that people are entertained, but are they actually paying attention?

\\\</param\>\\</param\>\\</param\>\\</embed\>\</object\>

For people who have flown countless times, it's definitely better than the usual. For first-time flyers, are they actually able to understand what they're trying to teach?

Mushroomhead tonight (Oct. 3) at Tremont Music Hall

Posted By on Sun, Oct 3, 2010 at 8:45 AM

MUSHROOMHEAD Formed in 1993, critics have usually lumped the mask-wearing metal band in with Slipknot. Fans of each band would argue that the other is copying their style, while Kiss sits off in a corner laughing at both of them. While I don't think they're going to win any singing competitions, the band does offer up some decent energetic metal with a melodic twist on occasion. Better bring earplugs, though. There are a ton of "special guests" on the bill, as well. $15/$18, Tremont Music Hall, www.tremontmusichall.com (Jeff Hahne)

Yard Dogs Road Show, Terrible Things and Uzuhi tonight (Oct. 2)

Posted By on Sat, Oct 2, 2010 at 8:45 AM

YARD DOGS ROAD SHOW Equal parts stage show, burlesque, the Chitlin Circuit, and The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Yard Dogs Road Show is what Tom Waits might be doing were he not comfortably ensconced in elderly LivingLegendLand. Mind you, the songs aren't at a Waitsian level (whose are?) and the music itself nowhere near as noisily unhinged. But it's a fun time, no less, which is good enough for your $10-20 these days. Neighborhood Theatre, www.neighborhoodtheatre.com (Timothy C. Davis)

\\\</param\>\\</param\>\\</param\>\\</embed\>\</object\>

TERRIBLE THINGS Power punk-pop trio features indie stars Fred Mascherino (Taking Back Sunday), Josh Eppard (Coheed & Cambria) and Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit). The harmonizing vocals and rousing guitar chops from their previous bands converge into this solid new unit. Lyrically adept, the touring veterans write tunes filled with longing and angst and are touring their freshly released self-titled debut. Also on the bill are: Mae, Windsor Drive, and Bracing for Impact. $13-$15, Tremont Music Hall, www.tremontmusichall.com (Samir Shukla)

\\\</param\>\\</param\>\\</param\>\\</embed\>\</object\>

UZUHI Japanese quartet, based in NYC, were a hardcore outfit out the gates in 2004. The rapid-fire guitar and speedy Japanese lyrics are still tossed about, but with the change in line-up a couple of years ago, Uzuhi now churn out its own version of acoustic punk, touched with keyboards, balladeering and even horns. Yes, it's musically all over the place, but in a charming sorta manner. With Marco Pollo and Summer Night Shade. $7-$9, Milestone, www.themilestoneclub.com (Shukla)

10-in-10 CD reviews

Posted By on Fri, Oct 1, 2010 at 3:46 PM

Each Friday, we review 10 recently released CDs in 10 words each:

Parlour Simulacrenfield — First studio album since 2002 offers solid instrumental ensemble grooves.

The Loomers Reeling Down A Road — Band uses many retro styles to create mildly catchy songs.

Steven Page Page One — Former Barenaked Ladies singer releases his Ladies-like solo debut.

The Dance Party Touch — Sounds more like cheesy pop/rock than any dance party.

Raul Malo Sinners & Saints — Plenty of Latin influence in his cross-pollinated musical structure.

The Fabulous Ginn Sisters You Can’t Take a Bad Girl Home — Duo gathers up some ‘50s country-rock style with attitude.

OMD History of Modern — First new album in 14 years picks up ‘80s torch.

Liza Minelli Confessions — After 60 years in show business, annoying covers album released.

Various Artists Yoga — Surprisingly, no Enya on relaxing variety CD for yoga fans.

Michael Holland and the Occoneechee Band Rhythm of Love — Carrboro group takes an old-school approach to folk music.

Papadosio and Sugarland tonight (Oct. 1)

Posted By on Fri, Oct 1, 2010 at 8:52 AM

PAPADOSIO It takes a couple of listens to get what this Ohio electronic rock quartet is doing. Some of its spacey instrumentals and songs get the tropical treatment with reggae and dub, while other tracks evoke a sci-fi flick with airy, floating compositions. The band's interplay is genuine, making it all gel. Papadosio is hitting the road in support of new recording Observations. $10, Double Door Inn, www.doubledoorinn.com (Samir Shukla)

SUGARLAND I've said it every time they've been in town and I'll say it again — while she has one of the best country voices out there today, Jennifer Nettles' solo stuff still beats what she's doing with Sugarland. Since those solo days are over, catch Nettles in the country setting... Her pipes have plenty of power and enough soul to go around. $39.25-$67. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, www.livenation.com (Jeff Hahne)
